Briefing: Bengal Burns, and So Does My Life.

Updated: Jun 8, 2021

Times in Bengal are not good nowadays. You know that in my last post, I was expecting a victory for the BJP in the Bengal elections. Well, that did not happen, and instead, the worst came to pass. After a thumping win for the Trinamool Congress, a massive wave of pro-government political reprisals is ripping across the State. BJP workers, leaders and sites are being mercilessly attacked. Large numbers of lynchings, murders, arson, rapes, and other crimes are being committed. No supporter is safe. This was, of course, expected, but the speed at which it has been happening is unprecedented; violence started practically from the day of the results and grew exponentially in severity. Within two days, almost three hundred distinct cases of violence and oppression have been detected, and this is the bare minimum; many other have doubtlessly gone by, unseen and unheard.

On the other hand, the spectre of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rip through the country, jeopardizing our futures. The competitive exams I was hoping to appear for have been indefinitely postponed, and with no graduation exam dates in sight, I am stuck in the final year of high school in perpetuity. The educational infrastructure has ground to a halt entirely, leaving students in a terrifying and uncertain limbo regarding what comes next. And with the State governments picking more fights with the Centre instead of cooperating, an efficient campaign of vaccination seems a pipe dream now more than ever. It's unlikely we will see any sort of genuine progress before July at the very least.

So, yeah, in conclusion, things are bad, with little to no hope of them improving in the near future. I haven't posted for a long time because I needed time to deal with everything, but I'll try to do so more often from now onwards. Thank you for your time and stay tuned. I'll be back soon enough.
